A medical marijuana card is a document that allows a patient with a valid doctor’s recommendation to grow, possess, or distribute medical marijuana despite the absence of the standard Food and Drug Administration (FDA) testing for effectiveness and safety. In general, the state that issues the card is also responsible for administering and managing the database of doctors who recommend the cards. The cards themselves are rather unique and one has to apply for only once. They are normally laminated with the patient’s name, address, physician, and a unique bar code. Each individual card comes with a one-year validity period.
